Tests
There are three main tests for diabetes, all of which check blood sugar levels. If a test comes back high, the doctor will most likely want to repeat it.
-Fasting glucose test: A test of blood sugar levels before the patient has eaten. Typically, a level of 126 mg/dL or higher indicates that the patient has diabetes
-Oral glucose tolerance test: The patient drinks a beverage containing glucose, and blood glucose levels are checked every thirty to sixty minutes for up to three hours. A level of 200 mg/dL or higher at two hours usually indicates that the patient has diabetes
-A1c test: A blood test that shows average blood sugar levels for the past two to three months. A level of 6.5% or higher can indicate that the patient has diabetes
A doctor may also recommend a zinc transporter 8 autoantibody test, which is a blood test that can help determine if a patient has type 1 diabetes instead of another type.

Treatment/Management-Lori Ko
Management is treatment for diabetes, and it can help maintain or reduce chance of diabetes (Prediabetes). With insulin resistance, the cells are resistant to the insulin and are unable to use it as effectively, and this leads to high blood sugar. Adopting healthy eating habits can help people lose a modest amount of weight and reverse insulin resistance. (NIDDK, 2017)Along with a healthy diet, exercise can help balance insulin in the body. “Studies show that after exercising … reversing insulin resistance and lowering blood glucose levels. Exercise also helps muscles absorb more glucose without the need for insulin.”(NIDDK, 2017) Using medicine as a preventative method can also be quite effective. Metformin is effective in preventing or delaying the development of type 2 diabetes. (NIDDK, 2017) Management can help maintain or reduce the chance of diabetes.
